Most wonderful news in a long time. So happy to hear Gottschalks is reopening. Can't tell you how I have missed it. No place left to shop! Please don't forget about us in Sonoma County. Santa Rosa misses you! Please come back.

I wish Gottshalks or Gottschalk, whatever they want to call it would fill all the shopping centers anchored by what was Mervyn's. I know Kohl's has filled a few. But here in Turlock, the big vacant Mervyn's is depressing.

They announced back in October that they were pushing the openings back to Spring 2011. I heard April now being thrown around as the date.

Last firm info I saw was about 4 weeks ago, they were in negotiations still for the Carson City store. So the plan is still actively being pursued.

Here in Fresno one of the empty Mervyns was just taken by Dick's Sporting Goods. They plan a 50,000 sq ft store here opening by summer and also are opening about a 35,000 sq ft store in Modesto.

Gottschalks and Mervyn's both great original California businesses that were driven into the ground by mismanagement.

I also understand the Mervyn G Morris boys are trying to do something to resurrect Mervyn's in some fashion like Gottchalks.

Daddy told them not to be stupid with the family fortune made when they sold out to the Dayton Hudson Corp which is Target Corp today.

I doubt they are going to be able to open in Spring 2011 in Carson. The building they vacated has a lot of work to be done to it and any other area location will need months of work in order to open. I'm not seeing any PR or website with a soft opening NADA...Sounds to me like a pipe dream.

This is the most recent info out of Carson City, dated January 12. They have been trying to get a tax incentive that has been given to other stores over there.
Gottschalk owner wants tax incentive as part of deal | NevadaAppeal.com

There are lots of rumors right now about what is happening. I was told today that someone else heard it was first half of 2011 for a reopening of at least one store. So that extends the timeline to May/June. We'll see how it goes.

That's great news, nothing worse than empty lots. Just looked up what Dick's is taking over, looks like what was Circuit City, that's great news, need jobs here bad. Plus, I want a alternative to Sports Authority.
