Default Will California Ever Allow Off-Coast Oil Drilling Again?

There has been talk of allowing new oil rigs off the California coast again. Even some Santa Barbara county supervisors have recommended new drilling near the Channel Islands. President Obama also supports some oil drilling but primarily off the East Coast. Now that the tragic oil spill is occurring in the Gulf near New Orleans, do you think California will ever allow new oil drilling?

I was just thinking about that today ... and how freaked i'd be if a spill happened off the CA coast!
I don't think there should be off shore drilling at all ... anywhere ... ever .... grrrrrrrr.

Probably not. It's time we got serious about alternative energy sources anyway. We've been dragging our feet on that for 40+ years now. I blame some of that on the big oil companies. But the American public also shares in the blame for buying giant SUVs and living in the biggest McMansions in the farthest flung suburbs the banks will lend them money for.

After the full impact of the GC Oil disaster is seen and felt I hope they never allow another oil drilling project. It would be wise of anyone to not support new drilling, it is after all a self admitting dead end energy that also guarantees ecological disasters.

Maybe now that oil will be washing up on the feet of the US in not only the GC but up the east coast as well, people won't be so apathetic to the truth of the issue.

Even with the disaster I think you're pretty much guaranteed new drilling. Not in the near future but in the future.

Agree. Not only California will soundly reject any oil drilling as it has for decades. But also the entire nation will turn against the oil companies and their careless stewardship of the environment. I hope BP is sued so bad that it will eventually be put out of business.

The Hollywood/Malibu celebrities that courted Obama, donated to his campaign did it with a proviso: drill, baby, drill...........................in the Gulf of Mexico, the East Coast, Alaska, the Great Lakes, but no oil drilling within
5,000 miles of the revered California coast.

They're not handling this correctly and they're passing the buck to some degree and i heard a commentator say today that they're a once great company that will go down because of this.
Good!
