I don't know what the o.p. is referring to but realize the obvious ... that for many, due to the anathematic beliefs and actions of so many so-called Christians throughout history, the cross represents the antithesis of Christ / the essence of Christianity, ie; love, peace, (Jesus = Prince of Peace) tolerance, compassion, kindness, etc..

Who is they?
Tens of millions of Californians could care less about a scap metal cross in the desert.
I only know of it because I passed it a couple times in my Rover.

Talk about vile and venom. Adios, Esse.
You know what curmudgeon, I used to respect you & would defend you when others attacked you for being an ignorant Southerner. Please show me wrong & produce comments where you praise California. After a while your rage over California becomes very tiresome & makes one wonder why you bother to post on the California forum instead of the Missouri or Arkansas forum. The separation of church and state is vital to keep people like you from forcing your so-called "christian" values on the rest of us. Your racial comment just shows all the more that we are better off without you in California & why it is not a coincident where you now live.

Most don't claim to be tolerant and/or open minded though like many liberals that really aren't do.

IF someone wanted it gone it's not for any reasons stated here but because they disagreed with the courts decision about it being on public land. Could be someone who is a stickler for their particular interpretation of the law. I'm sure most people posting here can relate to that.

LMAO!

Let's see:

The GOP's last Presidential nominee produces an ad titled "Tolerance":

YouTube - John McCain Web Ad: "Tolerance"

The GOP's last Vice Presidential nominee called for "tolerance":
Palin: It's About 'Mutual Tolerance.' U.S. Is a Christian Nation | The FOX Nation

The GOP's last President repeatedly extoled "tolerance":
Bush Calls for Greater Religious Tolerance in US | News | English (http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/a-13-a-2002-02-07-1-Bush-67418692.html?textmode=1 - broken link)
Bush at Islamic Center Urges Tolerance towards American Muslims (http://www.islamfortoday.com/bush01.htm - broken link)
The Free Lance-Star - Google News Archive Search

Anyone who doesn't think the GOP doesn't call for 'tolerance' ad nauseum is in serious need of a clue.

1. I don't need you or anyone else to defend me.

2. Scroll through my postings on all forums and you'll find plenty where I've praised California as many elements of it deserve.

3. If I'm a southerner it must be a southern Californian since that's where I was born and raised.

4. There's no rage, just a realistic grasp of what ails the state which I find most unfortunate.

5. I don't live in the south. I live in the mid-west.

6. I don't recall claiming any partricular church or faith in this thread. But I do claim life membership in the VFW.

You are no Californian and you live in the Ozarks [can't get more hick than that]. In your eagerness to join your Southern buddy in Louisiana you show your real colors: yellow against the 'Stars and Bars'.

I guess I am a total oxymoron: I was born in Oakland, CA and grew up in Berkeley (during the 60's). I am black and I joined the Marine Corps. I am a registered Republican. I believe in abortion, freedom of speech, very loose gun control, and I cannot stand religious fundamentalists on any spectrum (although I am a Christian). I am against government handouts and I didn't vote for Obama. I still live in the SF Bay Area.

Painting people with a broadbrush, often times results in these sorts of backlashes. Stereotypes are bad, however, having said that: Perception is reality. People perceive people in California as left wing liberals, ala San Francisco. In fact, I've been all across the country and most people don't even know it snows in California. When I tell them it snows here, they say, "You are lying." Most people's opinion of California is San Francisco and Los Angeles. Everyone is hot, wearing bikini's, at the beach, living a liberal lifestyle.

To some extent, its true. Look at the economy of California. Its in the tubes. Why? Due to a liberal/socialist lifestyle. People here want, want, and want more. But they don't want to pay for it, nor do they want to inact the cuts necessary to balance the budget. If California was its own country, it would have the 7th largest GNP in the world; above Canada, above Spain. But, we are bankrupt. Again, it comes down to the liberal/socialist lifestyle this state has adopted.

Personally, I am ashamed of this state. I've lived her for 46 yrs and I will be retired in a little over 3 yrs. I can't wait to get out of it, because of its liberalism. It is killing, and has killed, the greatest state in the union.
