I think that is the reality. Republicans of the Southern stripe eventually leave. Not kicked out but leave on their own accord. California-style Republicans come under attack by both the Democrats and the Republicans. You guys are so fractured and unhappy that it shows in your remarks. Never accepting a mindset that places people's health over corporate money. Strict taxation of polluters in the most polluted state. Would you prefer the ozone layer where all your smog settles in the Central Valley [2nd only to Los Angeles]. Call it socialism but a person has to pay to live in California & it is surely a big expense. There are more scenic treasures in California than anywhere else on the globe. Think about that Yosemite has smog, no lie!

But what sets me off is that a poster from Louisiana plants his little poison and leaves. Not willing to defend his statements? Sounds like a puss.

I apologize for that comment to Curmudgeon. It's like a perpetrator comes into your house and a family member joins them. It's an insult to the people who like Curmudgeon.

Well yeah, the o.p. is another story.
And i'm not sure who your post is directed to but i have no problem with socialistic "tendencies" ... shoot, i have no problem with socialism although i say that with some admitted ignorance.
But capitalism (at least the way it's "practiced" in this country and in these times) is, to me, truly odious and unworkable and can't support / be a part of an enlightened society ... which we're far from being and getting farther from it seems.
And if people were aware and heart-ful toward each other and toward the planet and all of its inhabitants we wouldn't need the kind of government intervention that pisses so many people off.

Internet "relating" can be tricky ... it's easy to presume and/or project and easy ... too easy ... to let the insults fly.
Been there.

I posted and got off line so I could cut grass, do my laundry, and other chores around the house. You know, things responsible adults do around their home instead of spending the entire day online.

Nice post coyoteskye. And while I'm a moderate Republican I can relate to your sentiments. I think you are touching on the some core issues which unfortunately divide so many in our nation. I think I can see this thread from both sides to a point.

California is just so different from many other states for better or worse. Many Californian's pride themselves in being 'counter culture,' against the grain, which can also mean against some of traditional values and ideals with which our nation was founded upon. For people from other states it does not necessarily make sense. Of course all Californian's aren't any one way, that would be a stereotype. But there are many more who could ascribe themselves more to a counter culture/anti-establishment type attitude. And as such care less about the things the OP poster asked - traditional American values and culture. Most Californian's would be happy to remove In God We Trust from every bill made and the Ten Commandments from the courthouses. Even though these are part of what our Nation was founded upon. How cares. Out with the old and in with new, right? Abraham Lincoln and all those old founding fathers were probably bigots and homophobes anyway. Geez, what does it matter what they thought. Or what bearing does that have on our current lives?

Does that mean that all Californian's think this way? Of course not. I think that is partly why so much venon was expressed toward the OP. But do these sorts of attitudes exist in varying degrees throughout the state? Absolutely. Does that make CA a bad place? No, it is just what it is. A place with ppl who pride themselves in their own individuality, beliefs, sometimes counter culture ideas, and outspoken opinions, good or bad as they may sound. I just agree to disagree with my fellow Californian's on many of these issues. And there are many Californian's I might add who have served their country and paid the ultimate price in doing so. As well as many other's who support our troops, although not always agreeing with the politics behind some of the conflicts we engage in.

So yeah, you hit a California hot button.

Derek

I call shenanigans. You are playing into the very stereotypes you were just talk about. CA hasn't even been able to make gay marriage or pot legal, you seriously think they would want to do this? Bwahahaha! Every other person I meet in CA is a conservative or a christian and sometimes both at the same time.

The rest of your post is ok.

Thank you. You are correct. I was writing too fast. A more accurate statement should read Many Californians rather than most. And many in the sense of a greater percentage than other states. Of course you are right that not all Californian's ascribe to this out with traditional American values in with the new either. But I think its fair to say we have a higher percentage who would vote for such things if/when given the opportunity. And unfortunately remove something which holds significance to fallen soldiers because it doesn't align with their current belief system or lack thereof.

I wonder where this might be? Definately not the parts of CA I've lived in - Mainly coastal SoCal and the Monterey Bay area. And BTW, I'm both at the same time, strange at it may seem. LOL
