California wine winning favor among China's swelling middle class - San Jose Mercury News

Quote:
"When I taste the red wine of America, I can feel the American culture," said Sun, the successful Beijing executive who is discovering California wine. "The wine produced by the Americans is more connected to the age the times than the French wine."

I can only imagine the spike in demand that would occur if California wines really took off in China. Hopefully someone will introduce them to Central Coast wines too! Napa/Sonoma isn't the only AVA producing quality wine in California.

Looks like it will be an all out battle of the wines of California versus France. This is good news for our state where 95% of all U.S. exports of wine come from.

Folks might want to check out the following facebook page. There's a move afoot to make it harder to sell wine across state lines. Perhaps an expanding trade with China would offset some of the bad joo-joo if this law passes. HR 5034

Haha.

But seriously, I was raised on European wine but will take a good CA Cab over those any day of the week. Its already too expensive and I am a cheap selfish bastard who does not want to compete with the Chinese. Lets make a law that states that they have to buy the cheap crap and we keep the good stuff for ourselves.

So we can export wine to (semi-)communist and heavily moralist China, but there are still about a dozen states in the US where one can not mailorder wine from out of state(let alone internationally). Blows my mind
