I'd recommend taking the Metrolink, there's one off of Katella and State College right by Angel Stadium and it'll take you right into the L.A. Union Station. Prices aren't too bad either, it's like $12-13 on a weekday and half that on the weekend and that's for a round trip pass. It's been awhile since I've rode the Metrolink, but I believe the ticket can also be used EZ Transit pass so you should be able to use it for riding the buses while in LA.

Aye SoCalRob or anyone,

I am moving to San Diego come August, what is the public transit like on the West Coast.

For example, I live in Philly and we can take China Town buses to NYC or DC for $15. I can do NJ Transit (train) and get into Manhattan for about $35 round trip. I can do Amtrak Express for work trips, north or south/nyc or dc, at about $150 round trip.

Anyone have numbers for me? Basically SD to LA, SD to SF, SD to LV. Thanks.

Well, I haven't moved yet, but I've kept my eye out for SD to SF airline tickets because I have a friend that lives there, and need to go there in Sept. for a wedding. I think tickets were between 99-150 round trip.

I've taken the Amtrak to a buddy's house down in SD and roundtrip from here (north OC, about 20 miles south of LA) costed me about $35. I looked up some quotes for you for travels between the other cities and here's what I came up with.

Amtrak - $35 From SD-LA (roundtrip, you do not want to fly between SD/LA there's sometimes unnecessary stops in Vegas or elsewhere and it's too pricey for the short distance, but if you can find a cheap flight then go for it)

Amtrak/Airlines - $65/$150 From SD-SF (roundtrip, Finkie's right that flights are in the $150 range so if you have the extra dough you can do that or if you want to see the state and aren't in a hurry, I'd recommend taking the train)

Amtrak/Airlines - approx. $150 From SD-LV (roundtrip by train/plain are roughly the same)
