What are the pro's and con's for both - Stockton vs. Modesto, CA.

Lifestyle?
Acceptance of 49 year, masculine, gay man.
Let me know anything.

Just do a quick search. Lots of info on these two cities in just the past year. As far as being gay. Stockton would probably be a better fit. Stockton and Modesto are almost equal in your first three points. Stockton's population is more diverse than Modesto. Similar to a lot of East Bay cities. Good luck.

I think they both suck. Are those your only options? Between the 2, I'd choose Stockton because it does have a couple of nicer areas. Not aware of any in Modesto. Plus, Stockton affords you better proximity to larger cities. Both have extreme heat, cheap housing and lots of crime. Maybe, if nothing else, Stockton offers some delta breeze???

Stockton has an art museum with some nice paintings of Yosemite by Bierstadt. I actually made a trip out there from Mountain View once just to see them. I can't think of a single other thing that distinguishes them from each other.

Stockton has a more substantial downtown, a university and is closer to Sacramento (with a decent gay scene), the Delta and the Bay Area.

Both are what you would call crime ridden.

Which is better, the Madera area or Modesto? It doesn't sound like people cared for the Modesto area very much, so what areas in CA (reasonably priced/lower crime, haha) would all of you recommend?
