This is not a troll thread or meant to start a war but it's more about what people think. okay so Native Californians like myself, claim that when an outsider from another state bashes California or stereoypes it, that they are really just jealous and tired of whatever state their from. I want to know if this is true. Like what's your experience?

Some are. Others are mired in strict religious dogma and look at California as a sinful, evil place. Others denigrate what they don't know, have never seen, and are familiar with only through mass media representation.

Many visit the population centers of the Northern and Southern portions of the state, don't like what they see, and whitewash the entire state because of that experience. Just look at how many people here at C-D think the entire state is represented by the coastal strip of So Cal.

A lot of people are angry because they remember CA as the great place it used to be. And they hate the forces that changed it: illegal immigration, liberal government, culture decline among other disastrous changes.

As a native myself who has moved out of the state, I would say a lot of it is jealousy. It has taken me some years to come to the conclusion that there are few states that can offer what California can...but it's not cheap. So if you can't afford to live in the desirable areas, it's easier to talk about all the bad stuff than to confront the fact that you just can't afford to live in the state.

I live on the East Coast now (Mid-Atlantic), and I've met more materialistic and shallow people than I ever did in California. And their mindset...well, that's another thread.

A lot of people might have been jealous of California for what it once was. I don't think nearly as many people are jealous of what it has become.

And perhaps the most important of all, a population boom that simply got out of control.

I have a friend that lives in missouri. She's never been to california but she's always grossly stereotyping california saying how everyone here is stuck up and this and that. I defend it and she ends our friendship over that?
