According to GMAC Insurance agency’s sixth annual nationwide survey of driver knowledge, one in five drivers — that’s about 38 million Americans — would not pass a written driver’s exam if taken today.

For the survey, GMAC polled more than 5,200 licensed Americans from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, asking 20 questions from the DMV driver test, plus questions related to distracted driving.

While New York came in last at 51, California was only a few notches from the bottom of the pack at number 48, the same place it finished last year.

Wow. Californians averaged 73.3%, a whopping 2.9% lower than the national average of 76.2%.

What an epic gulf...

No way that ANY state is over 70%. I remember reading the DMV handbook like a school textbook. Once I took the test, pretty much all of the info is gone. How many feet can I travel across a double yellow line...blah blah blah. Alot of driving is common sense. If you think you are doing something stupid, you are doing something stupid.

Bad drivers are more inconsiderate drivers than being bad drivers. Every jerkoff knows how to drive clean like a whistle when there is a cop behind them.
