The RV industry, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, has had a bumpy road lately, but now it may be turning the corner.

Winnebago, one of the top manufacturers of recreational vehicles, posted stronger than expected quarterly profits Thursday.

Plus many of the RV manufactures are now out of business so people have less companies or products to choose from so the companies that are still in business should see a stronger gain in profits just from less competition...Most companies are still well below their production level that they were at a few years ago. So I see this as nothing more than just a feel good story but shows little truth to how the RV business is doing as a whole.

Actually, I think you've hit the nail on the head. I for one will go full time if I can ever get out from under this mortage on my 10 acres.

I've been doing reseach for over a year now and have come close to deciding what I want vs what I can afford vs what is really practical for an older single woman.

My first choice but not so economical would be to get a really nice truck camper with a tag along utility trailer but that would require a big pricey dually.

My second choice would be to get a small (around 25ft) tag along real 4 season trailer. This would require a smaller towing vehicle F150/250, but I'd have to go all electronic (not such a bad thing) but I'd miss my beloved books and could only read them on a tablet.

It would leave me free to "follow the jobs" (I'm an LPN) and still have roof over my head.

I would still love to have a small 2-5 acre plot of land to nest on but the way things are going it might not be realistic anymore. At least with an rv I won't be totally homeless, I'd have a roof over my head, a bed, a way to stay warm/cool, a way to cook and a way to get clean. The added plus is there are more and more full timers so there would always be "friends" along the way.

I wonder if the bedbug scare is helping to drive RV demand too.

Also the "graying" of America with people buying moving up to RV's after family tent camping. Many people have their homes paid off, they're facing retirement, kids grown up and it's time to travel.
