I'm shopping for a used RV, and on the phone I was told "It's 27ft bumper to bumper".

Is it vehicle length or coach length?

RVs are generally advertised from the furthest point forward to the furthest point aft on the outside of the vehicle.

A trailer which is advertised as a 30-footer likely has a coach length of 27 feet as the measurement includes the hitch and the rear bumper.

A self-propelled RV will be measured from the front bumper to the rear bumper.

If it's a motorhome and the owner said it's 27' bumper-to-bumper, I'd assume he meant what he said.

I believe 5ers and travel trailers are usually measured from tip-to-tip too, although that might not be what the model number indicates. For example, my "255RKS" stands for 25.5 feet, rear kitchen, slide, but it actually measures about 28 feet from bumper to pin, and the 25.5 would be the living space.

Thanks guys for the quick responses.

I am asking for insurance and more clarity purposes. It is a class c and I have been told 2 answers for measuring:
- it is from steering wheel to rear bumper (true living space)
- it is coach front to coach end.

I apologize for any confusion in my original post. Thanks for all the help.

.
Very true, he said he used a tape measure when I asked about the model/make and length.
