There was one Sprinter Conversion from Gulfstream (G23?) that had huge storage under an elevated rear bed (They had Fiberglass pop-outs in the rear window for more leg room while sleeping). Gulfstream made them for about 3 yrs and a Van place in MO was selling them for $58k, they were sweet. A poster on this forum has one.
....... My wife paints and we have plans to show her paintings as we travel. .......
If you are carrying enough paintings to do a show, you need space and organization. Also some designated space for painting supplies, which can take up a lot of room.
I would either buy a bigger tow vehicle and buy a toy hauler trailer. You can do organized shelves and racks for the artwork in the empty space in the back of the trailer and have cooking facilities and a nice place to sit at the art shows. Also a place to sleep on the nights you are not staying in a hotel.
The other option would be to get either a camper or a small motor home and pull a box trailer set up with the shelving that you need.

My niece tours her paintings at art fairs in beach towns in South and Eastern USA.
She updated to a dedicated small cargo trailer that can be towed behind a minivan. It was a big plus, and now everything is organized and out of her way while traveling..
She backs the trailer in and can be set-up in 20 minutes.
Sounds like a good idea. We went to the San Diego Auto Show yesterday and Ford had one of their vans there. It was set up with 5 rows for 15 passengers...a real whale and can be outfitted for an RV conversion. Rear opening doors, comes with Diesel and was around $35k base model (roll up windows if you can believe they exist?). Anyway it was a good view.

Been using the Diesel Ford Transit in my work in China for several yrs.
It is pretty good utility vehicle.
Crank windows, Manual locks, and manual transmission is were you want to be for reliability, economy, and long service life.
I never use my electric windows at an automatic car wash!!! Once was enough, old school had a device that grabbed your front wheel and pulled you through the cycles, window frozen "down" and I was sprayed and brushed well on that 20F night.
Burr... what a mess.
Of my 34 VW diesels, I have 6 TDI Passats with e windows. They are trouble (with a capital T)
