Thanks for clearing that up, Sherlock. Be sure to spread the word.

Some great camping areas have no trees. Apparently, you were not aware of that.

Guess I should have written “ONLY if there are trees.”

how do you tent camp with bad back? Last year hubby and I tried camping with about 10 other cousins & we went home the next day and slept entire day catching up because tent sleeping, although was nice, left us tired while rest of the gang went biking and hiking. My husband has bad back & I although don't have bad back still like my comfort. It was our first time and we slept on sleeping bag. I didn't think about inflatable mattress

I have never slept with just a sleeping bag---I've never camped anywhere with a flat, soft surface. Everything has been angled, hard, rocky, full of roots, etc.

There are various things you can buy/try: sleeping pads, air mattresses or cots.

It depends how far away from your car you are. If your car is by your camp site, get a cot and/or an air mattress.

I remember camping with a friend whose husband was a hard core no mattress camper. Good grief! I can't imagine. Even my spare Z rest pad was luxury for her. I always have an air mattress.

As we get older a folding cot is a good addition.

We pack hunt a lot as in no tent just a small pad to throw over denatured granite and it's so comfy. Other times we stay in a travel trailer. Some times we have a mix of tent with an actual AC unit inside with genset. That's probably my favorite for getting way back in there and still being comfortable when it's hot during the day. It does raise eyebrows.
