Thinking about a reasonable price tow vehicle for towing 5 k. They come with two engines 4.8 or 6 liter most have a 3.42 rear axle 6 speed transmission. Can pick a 2017 with 25k miles for right under $20k. Drove one ton vans for 40 years for work but never towed anything.

The 3.42 is about the worst for towing, geared for gas mileage. ideally 3.73, if you can find it. Nonetheless, that van should be able to tow 8,900/12,000 depending on the engine with the standard cooling. It looks like they were only made with the 3.42 rear end. I agree with the Rabbit, even for 5,000 lbs. get a weight distribution/Sway control hitch.
Hemlock140 thanks for the trailing guide very helpful
