Here's what I learned about Kintla- since it is so remote, generally you can get a camping spot if you get there before noon. There are only 13 spots, so it's not packed. My son and I got there around 9:30a.m. and there were three available. We had site 10 which was nicer and at the end of the sites, so no one is cramped on top of you.

Kintla is generally a stopover for folks hiking backcountry, so camping spots open up every morning. When we were there, no one was kayaking farther than 200 yards from shore, so basically the lake is empty. When my son and I hiked around, we saw a black bear, a number of loons and NO ONE on the trail 3/4 mile away from the campsites. It was like we had it to ourselves.

Bowman lake is more crowded, but still nice. My son and I decided next year to do a series of 50 mile hikes, the first one will start at Kintla and go up the northern route, eventually to Waterton CN.

I think the fire on the east side is going to be under control this week- we are getting some nice rain right now- about 3/4-1" forecast. They should be able to get a line on it quickly. If so- the pressure on the east side will subside and I'd imagine Kintla and Bowman will be less travelled (as usual).

We've learned to steer clear of Apgar, St. Mary's and Many Glacier. Just too crowded.

Great park! I grew up about 25 minutes from Hillsborough River SP. We had our family reunions there every year, and that was my second campout ever as a Boy Scout.
