Actually a relative who was visiting out of Michigan shared that with me. We had a campfire in the backyard 2 nights in a row with 2 different logs of course. I was so fascinated I forgot to snap pics of those, so had to make one for ourself's on our next outing.

Actually, it is pretty well known in Sweden. Often done at BBQ parties.

Our home is heated by a wood-burning fire place, so I make quite a few of these for the winter months.

Now that's something I've got to try. I've tried many different ways of building fires but that's the first time I've ever seen that one.

It can be most any kind of wood, but it must be very dry. I have not heard of using charcoal lighter fluid to start it. Maybe their wood was damp. I use birch bark.

Nothing wrong with a cottonwood fire. We burn a lot of it, here.
