ESFP, various schemes in various states have been floated to build "truck-only" lanes that would be tolled (basing that on new construction hasn't previously been paid for with tax dollars.) I-81 has been mentioned as a possibilty for one of these "truck-only" lane routes. Granted, SOMETHING has to be done there since traffic is already outgrowing the highway. But any truck tolls will have to be passed on in the form of rate hikes to shippers. There is little enough margin in trucking before you even get to toll implementation/increases. Will be interesting to see what happens...

Yeah, I'd have a tough time stomaching toll booths in Wyoming. I once made a (very) rough estimate as to what it would cost Wyomingites to rebuild the highway. I'm thinking it was well over $1000 for each and every one of us. (There aren't that many of us to pay for it, yanno.) That wouldn't go over too well here either. I live in the north end of the state and hardly ever drive on I-80, so a $10 toll to go from one end of the state to the other might cost my wife and me $2/year. Compare that to $2000 in additional taxes and guess how I'd vote.

This was in our local paper the other day about the upcoming legislative session and the state's sharp decline in revenues:
"The only bill so far that addresses highway revenue is one that would allow the Wyoming Department of Transportation to develop a master plan to put toll booths on Interstate 80."
