During Prime Minister, Brian Mallorney administration where there was a meeting termed as Mitch Lake Conference (?) discussing the issue of Quebec, has anybody remembered about this event, its agenda and outcome? Would you share with me for my research?

Thanks!

ctjang,

Indeed, former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his government once came up with a plan to bring the province of Quebec "into Canada" by having Quebec recognize and ratify the present Constition of Canada.

Mulroney termed his plan The Meech Lake Accord, after the location where the initial meetings took place. Mulroney's federal government pushed hard for the Accord, but it faced great opposition in other parts of the country and was not accepted.

I'm sure a decent internet search engine will unearth all the details for you.

Thank you for correcting my spelling of Mr. Mulroney and gave the right title, The Meech Lake Accord. Otherwise, I could never get the material from any search engine.

You're welcome.

Good luck with delving into part of the 400-year-old power struggle between the province of Quebec and the Canadian federal government.
