What Canadian would want to give up the socialist benefits to live in a society totally dominated by the dollar bill like the US. A major illness in the US could land anyone on the streets what type of society is that?

I was at a drugstore recently to pick up a prescription (in California). An elderly lady was stuck with a bill for prescription meds that was over $200. Well I get to the counter only to be informed that my health insurer no longer covered one of my prescriptions so they would have to inform my doctor that he would have to find a substitute med or I could pay for it myself - cost $368.

Canada if America tries to annex you - FIGHT LIKE HELL!!!!!!! You do not want to live in a society with no real benefits. America may be the richest country in the world but it sure as hell ain't the most generous. If you don't have the money here you will be living at Third World standards with none of the other benefits like the sun, sand, beach and good ganja that a Jamaican or Bahamian may have access to LOL.

And this American would like to have the benefits Canada has.

This one would too. How can you really have quality of life if you can't afford good healthcare. Something is inherently wrong with a nation in which giant moneymaking pharmaceutical companies dominate the medical field and are only interested in creating legal drug addicts.

If you have no access to heathcare, daycare or elder care unless you can afford to pay for it how "rich" can a nation really be? America is so anti-human.

I broke my spine in 2008. The cost of my surgery: Almost 130,000 USD. It is a miracle that I am walking(no cane or crutches necessary). Another thing is that the doctor kind of let it go as far as the cost goes. It was an expensive surgery. I can't pay it right now. As of now, the hospital is not hounding me to pay the bill. Still, cost isn't something I should be worrying about in that case. I need to worry about getting better.

Prescription drugs are not covered by provincial health plan either. If you don't have a good supplementary plan, 100% of those drugs will come out of your own pocket as well.

As to benefit, they don't come from the "government", they come from taxpayers' pockets. You get good heath coverage, you should be prepared to lose something elsewhere to compensate that.

The real question is what would happen if America were annexed by Canada.

i guess when a Canadian newspaper had an article on a Canadian actor in Hollywood they would just have to refer to them as an actor rather than as a "Ontario born" actor...

and we'd have Sarah Palin leading a campaign to eliminate gay marriage.

What is so horrible about Canada that would make some people want the USA to annex it?

LOL. Now you know, that there question is an invitation for the Canada bashers to pipe up with their 2 cents worth.

The whole point is that there is nothing horrible about Canada, it presents as the most valuable resource acquisition in the world for any other nation with enough power to take it away.

That is one of the reasons why our national anthem has these lyrics.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

.

If Canada joined the Union (USA), the quality of life of Canada would go to hell.

The USA has too many problems and Canada is one of the best countries on earth.

Also, Canada is more like Europe. Peaceful, a mixed economy (capitalism+Socialism), and have a monarchy.

The USA have presidents, the population is hyphenated, and there is no universal healthcare. Too many wars, any Joe could have a GUN, etc.
