Winnipeg has long held the title of the murder capital (large cities) of this country.

CBC News - Manitoba - Winnipeg is Canada's murder capital

It seems we are also the cultural capital.

City the 2010 cultural capital - Winnipeg Free Press

This is a strange juxtoposition of designations for the same city.

Yes I've been to Toronto.

The designations are not mine. I've included the links for reference.

What does 1 in 10 people being white have to do with anything?

Actually Abbotsford, B.C. is Canada’s murder capital. That link you posted is 2 years old. Winnipeg is still high up, though.

Congratulations to Winnipeg for winning their bid.

Ontario Traveler, I think perhaps you're confusing culture with diversity. Culture is about cultural traditions and the arts, music, dance - that kind of thing, not about the color of people's skin. If you read the article you'll see that Winnipeg just won the annual bid to receive $2 million in federal funding for a series of arts events for 2010.

Diversity is about individuals, and that includes their race and skin color and belief systems.

Abbotsford, B.C. is Canada
If you re-read my post, you will see I said Wpg. is the leader among large cities. While I've been to Abbotsford and like it, it's not a large city.

I always thought that Regina was the murder capital of Canada, but I'm wrong, according to Macleans Magazine.

poor people who have to live there. winnipeg is about the worst city I've ever visited in my life - ugly, depressing and very leavable!a large sprawling and unattractive urban environment with terrible weather. i can imagine it being the murder capital of canada too!

Winnipeg isn't so bad! It's really just a few neighbourhoods where all the crime is all of the other areas are lovely. And I know many of the people that live in the "high crime" areas and they love living there.

Most of the crime in Winnipeg is in the core area of the north end. Many of the individuals involved are known to police; not much of the crime is random. Most areas of the city are very safe.

Lots of great cultural activities here, and the summers are generally lovely. The city offers the internationally acclaimed Winnipeg Folk Festival, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet in the Park, Folklorama, Lower Fort Garry, great walking tours, the list goes on and on.
