News, Most Canadians would fail own citizenship test.
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Most Canadians know so little about their own country that they would flunk the basic test that new
immigrants are required to take before becoming citizens, according to a poll released on Friday.
The Ipsos-Reid survey showed that 60 percent of Canadians would fail the test. A similar poll done in 1997 showed a failure rate of 45 percent.

Do you think Americans would do better on their citizenship test?? Have you ever seen Jay Leno ask the questions of people passing by on the sidewalk?

I guess there's something wrong with the citizenship test itself....
what matters most to newly immigrants is how to make a living, not the history of the country.

People intent of applying for citizenship in a country have the advantage of recently studied the relevant material.
Citizenship tests in general tend to focus on items taught in school. By the time a person is old enough to asked "man in the street" question, grade 5 social studies is dim and fading memory for most.
The Canadian Citizenship test also has a number of questions relating to the creation of a third territory in 1999, Nunavut. Quite frankly, it was not an earth-shattering event to those not living in the region.
