This is a great video that I found about the former premier of Newfoundland talking about Quebec. Despite all the money pouring into Quebec we are still the most taxed place in North America.

I think it's a perfect example of how Canada fails as a nation. Quebeckers have Canada by the throat, The West Coast, the praries and the maritimes are so far away they might as well be their own countries. Toronto thinks it's in a league of its own, they even dare call themselves the "center of the universe" with a straight face. hah! I should know, I lived in Toronto for 13 years.

I honestly don't know why these provinces should form a country... they are so far away from each other and have very little in common. Canada may be a country politically, but not a nation culturally.
When someone hears one say "I am Canadian", it is very different from hearing "I am French/English/Chinese/Korean" as it almost means nothing other than "Geographically I am from North America but not the USA or Mexico".

Question: if Quebec ever gets independence, will it be willing to take east maritime provinces with it?

Probably not. Most of Atlantic Canada is English-speaking does not have much in common with Quebec.

The only exceptions would be Acadian areas in northern and eastern New Brunswick, and these are still culturally different from Quebec (the people there are Acadian, not Québécois, and are actually descended from different parts of France even).

If Quebec ever separated, what would be left of Canada (the new Canada) would have to screw the Acadians around big time in order to have them join Quebec. Acadians are quite strongly loyal to Canada and opposed to Quebec independence and I don't see this changing unless Canada starts mistreating them.

My spider senses are tingling when i hear most are tired of Charest and the Parti Quebecois is the only option, i'd say referendum within the first year,
Quebec votes yes to separation and lawyers make tons of money for the next 20 years trying to figure out what Quebec is exactly entitled to leave with landwise.
Ultimately Canada falls apart with a result =
Maritimes form an economic alliance with the USA.
Ontario goes it alone..
Manitoba and Saskatchewan merge, perhaps with Alberta.
BC goes it alone or perhaps with Yukon.

Quebec's greatest misfortune is to be surrounded by English speaking countries/provinces. If located somewhere else, it could be a much more promising country.

You have never heard this expression yet live in Newfoundland? All of my Newfoundland relatives use it to refer to the particular variety of English spoken in the province.
