Yes, and it's this way in almost all European countries and Britain, too. They actually have entire shows doing nothing but putting down Americans, like portraying all Americans as being nothing but fat, lazy, rude redneck trailer trash people. Can any American imagine a show being the most popular, sold-out show on Broadway if it did nothing but put down any other people in the world? London's equal to Broadway had such a show about Americans and it was the longest running, most sold-out show ever to play there. A show such as this about any people in the world would never be popular here b/c it would bore Americans to death. They also had a TV show that was very popular that did the same thing. It was called "The Lardburgers". My guess is it's probably the same way in Canada to a certain degree. People love slamming the USA in this day and time, however, most of it is nothing but propaganda/lies and clips of the way the USA was many years ago. And for the record, it was this way in Europe/Britain long before George Bush. It has actually been this way in Europe/Britain since the very beginning of America. They have just been sitting over there dying for us to make a mistake.
So we've had a horrible leader for a few years. What country hasn't? Do we really need to remind Europe/Britain of the things they did when they had the power to do so not so many years ago? They tried their best to slam their culture down everybody in the world's throats. It hasn't been that many years ago that they were in many Middle Eastern countries. They hate us because they love our movies, music, etc, and hate themselves for loving these things made in the USA. Seriously, they say our culture is taking them over, yet they make fun of us and say we have no culture. But did we really twist their arms to buy our movies, music, etc? Of course not. It really cracks me up how "some" Europeans/Brits will say things like we are still prejudice towards blacks in the USA, yet the most popular runner for the leader of our entire country is black, which really shocked them b/c of the lies they have forced themselves to believe about America. Ask them what leaders they have had that were black and they will answer ZERO, because as much as they hate us, they hate their blacks, Arabs, etc, almost just as much. Anyway, all countries in the world have had bad leaders at one time or another and all countries in the world who have ever had any sort of power at all have done at least as bad as we have done, but usually much worse. It's hard being human beings who make many mistakes every single day and have almost all of the power in the world as the USA has had over the years and not make any mistakes. We are ALWAYS dam*ed if we do and dam*ed if we don't. Yes, I realize it's changing and I don't think that's a bad thing. The rest of the world is catching up to us.
I have only met Canadians on the Internet, but I've been on message boards such as this one since the 90's, so I have met a whole lot of them. Don't get me wrong, I have met and made friends with some nice Canadians, but most of them are anti-American and just mimic whatever the Europeans/Brits are saying. There are also a whole lot of Muslim extremists in Canada. Some of the most extremists I have met have been from Canada, Britain, Sweden, France and the most socialist/liberal countries. It's because the more you let them by with, the more they will run over you. Swedes are moving out of Sweden "in droves" b/c of their Muslim extremists' violence, according to a Swedish newspaper and more people are moving out of Europe/Britain than at any other time in their history b/c of the same reason. Many Europeans/Brits wonder why US Muslims do not seem to be as near as extreme as their Muslim populations. Number one, we have not pushed our Muslim populations into the slummest parts of our country and, therefore, they are much more spread out here and are not discriminated against for jobs here in the US as they are in much of Europe. Number 2, they know we will not put up with it for one minute here and b/c we are not near as politically correct as they are, which they seem to take great advantage of.
I have studied these facts for many hours, so I know what I'm talking about. An example: As many French women were being forced to wear veils and no makeup to even go out of their homes in certain areas of France or they would be raped/gang raped by Muslims, I knew it before most of the French knew it b/c they're too politically correct to print problems such as this in their newspapers. A couple of girls finally escaped from these areas and moved out to finally write books about it. The majority of French people were shocked at this news and it had been going on for many years. If you ignore problems such as this, it's just going to get worse. I could go on and on and on about this subject for hours. We rarely hear of the horrifying problems some of the Europeans are having with their Muslim extremists.
Anyway, give me the USA anyday. Being a liberal extremists is at least just as bad as being a conservative extremist and most of the US population are somewhere in the middle. Extremism is disastrous in any guise, and I think too many Canadians are too much on the liberal side just as too many Europeans are too far to the left and it will destroy their countries. Also, I love the weather where I live in the USA. In fact, as I was driving home today, I thought, my God, how many more of these absolutely perfect days can we have like today? The sky was nothing but crisp blue, not too hot, not too cold. We have all four seasons but rarely any days in the winter or summer when it's extremely hot or extremely cold. There I go with the too extremes again.
We have our problems here but it's nothing we can't fix. All countries have just as many problems and have had just as many bad leaders. Don't worry about the US being the power of the world because others will be taking our place soon and they will be hated even worse than we have been. Most Americans do not like America being the superpower/police of the world. It's funny, though, how Europeans scream for our help when they have a problem - Bosnia/Kosovo. I hope Europe and the rest of the world enjoy China being a superpower of the world. I guess Europe will have to scream for China's help when the US will only have enough power to help ourselves. And, yes, it goes both ways. We won't be able to count on Europe's help, either. Personally, I think the Europeans have screwed all of us in this regard. When most of the rest of the world wants to take away our freedoms, they will wish they hadn't divided us, but they certainly made the world much happier by dividing us.

USA definitely. I like Canada's natural beauty and wide open spaces, such a large country with so little population! But when I travel to Canada I notice the general quality of things to be subtly but noticeably lower. It's a little hard to describe but for instance even something like going to a McDonald's or KFC to be a lower quality experience. I remember recently going to a KFC in Vancouver, BC and ordering the basic chicken breast meal. What I got was a piece of meat about half the size you'd get at a KFC in the US. Similar thing at McDonald's where the breakfast menu had only about half what you see at a McD's in the US. They have the same motel chains you see in the US, but the quality of the rooms seems inferior, smaller with less amenities. TV selection is worse too. I know there's a lot of crap on American cable systems but it's even more boring on Canadian ones. These things may seem trivial but they represent a general atmosphere there that isn't quite as good although compared to most of the world Canada is great! On the up side I will say the cities seem cleaner, although I think American cities have improved in that area in the last 20 years, and I'm sad to say, I think the Canadian cities are getting a bit grungier than I remember from 20-30 years ago. So Canada is a nice place to me, just not as nice as most parts of the USA.

I was born and raised in Chicago and have visited dozens of US cities. I've been contracting and living in Canada (Vancouver/Toronto) for the past 2+ years and recently asked myself the exact same question: should I stay or go back to the States? That said, I had to weigh the pros and cons that I’ve seen:
PROS:
- Beautiful land: Just some of the most breathtaking, untouched land you will ever see (especially in the west
- Friendliness: Obviously this depends on your neighborhood (regardless of country), but people in Canada have generally been very kind, courteous and friendly despite knowing I was from the States
- Environment: Short of Lake Ontario (the locals won’t even swim in it), everything seems to be cleaner. Canadians seems to be much more conscious about the environment; recycling and caring about the environment is in their blood
- Diversity: Again, this depends on where you live, but the diversity of Vancouver and Toronto just amazed me. The pure concentration of foreigners (Europe, Asia, Caribbean, etc) bleeds into the Canadian culture and makes for a very multifaceted place to live in.
CONS:
- Consumer power: The loony (CAD) has never been stronger in 30 years. It's almost on par with the USD, yet you'd never know that if you didn't cross the border. Things still cost an arm and a leg here and it drives me nuts! $50 for a case (24) of beer and $11 for a pack of smokes! Don't even get me started on the Cable/Telecom companies. The monopoly that these companies have makes AT&T look like one of the good guys. $45 for 300 minutes? Voicemail, Caller ID and incoming text messages are extra? Cellular roaming is something American consumers haven’t heard in 10 years but it’s alive and well here in Canada! And if you think you’re going to get a deal by shopping online, forget about it. I don’t know if it’s the poor parcel shipping infrastructure or something else, but it doesn’t exist. When’s the last time Americans paid anything for a basic bank checking account? 10% off doesn’t qualify as an outlet store. Just ask what a BC resident pays for auto insurance. They’re all little annoyances, but they add up to a lot of money! Yes, the USD may be going down the drain in the world market, but for Americans that never deal in foreign currencies, a dollar is still a dollar. They’re still getting the best deals in the world.
- Driving/Road Infrastructure: There’s not much road rage, but if they’re not going 150mph, they’re on a Sunday stroll blind and oblivious to the world around them. This may be an unfortunate consequence of influx of immigrants and hence, new drivers. Not sure who designed the local roads in Canada, but here are a few tips: left turn lane + left turn signal = good. They’re mutually exclusive here, almost never together. Make dedicated parking lanes; don’t turn a normal lane into parking spots after 6pm. And a special tip for Toronto: salt the streets BEFORE it snows and plow while it’s snowing. For a place that supposedly gets a lot of snow, I’ve never seen such poor snow removal management.
- Taxes: Very very high. I know it pays for the social services that are shared by all, but the fact that the government has accumulated tens of billions in surplus every month might mean it’s a bit on the high side. I know the GST was just cut by 1%, but I still believe it’s too high.
DRAW:
- Crime: Not here to debate about the crime statistics. But for the same reason I think the US is too strict on things like minor drug offenses, I believe Canada is way too lenient on more serious crimes. I don’t know how many times I heard on the radio about convicted murderers being released in less than 10 years. In fact, most Canadians think so too ( http://section15.gc.ca/eng/pi/rs/rep...01_1/p2_1.html)
- Health Care: There’s no doubt that the American health care system has serious flaws, but the quality of socialized health care isn’t a walk in the park either. One of my friends had to wait 2 weeks after an x-ray to know whether or not his ankle was broken. Another was asked by the doctor to google his own symptoms and tell him what he thought it was.
In the end, I have decided to move back to Chicago. Toronto and Chicago are both very similar in terms of layout, infrastructure and feel. It’s a tough call; each has their benefits. But money is priority number one in my book. Base your decision on your own priorities (not on hype and hearsay) and I’m sure you’ll end up happy.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! amazing post!!!!!! you are absolutley right!!!
Canada's politicians are way too liberal and pretty soon we will be overrun by muslim extremists and suffer more terrorist attacks than anywhere else in the world. This is also thanks to our loose border security. Terrorists can come in and leave anytime they please. Its really a tragedy, i can just imagine the next terrorist attack in canada. The prime minister will be too scared to take action because the muslims will protest that they are being racially discriminated. This is actually one of the reasons why i am trying to leave Canada, the country is way too liberal, and the more liberal it gets the more oppurtunities criminals will have to succeed.
