Does Canada have cities or neighborhoods that are so left-wing that they are jokingly called the "People's Republic Of..."?

None come to mind in particular. We've certainly got some fairly liberal areas, but I can't recall anyone ever making that joke about any of them.

There isn't anything special or out of the ordinary about any particular areas (even very large ones) being "liberal", "progressive", "left-leaning" or even "socialist" in Canada.

I agree with this. As someone who lives in "The Peoples Republic of Cambridge", when compared to much of the US it is an outlier from a portion of the country. If Cambridge were in Canada though, it would stand out alot less (Policy wise).

I have heard the CBC referred to as the "Communist Broadcasting Corporation."

If you are thinking of coming to Canada and want to avoid most of the Socialist/Communist areas Calgary and Edmonton will be the closest you'll get to American Republican ways of thinking, even then you may think they're rightwing lightweights..
One thing for sure if you do come up and start talking about American politics you'll be talking to yourself real fast as we dont care.

Heh. The words "republic" or "republican" are rarely used words in Canada. It's not likely you'd hear them spoken in any typical conversations. Some people would have to look them up just to find out what they mean.

I would guess that the average Canadian knows a lot more about American politics than the average American does about Canadian politics.

By default on surface this is somewhat true, mainly because America culture and media has been exported to Canada at a greater rate than Canadian to the US. I find that overall Canadians "think" they know more about American politics, policy and culture than they actually do.

Yes they will know the basics, but once you press them to go in depth with their opinions the ignorance and lack of knowledge is exposed pretty quickly. Which is very similar to many other cultures around the globe.

Regardless, even "conservative" Alberta would be about as far right as the Obama Administration. Things drift leftward from there.
