If I'm lucky, I plan to spend Canada Day in my pool, with a pina colada in hand, and Neil Young et al on the ipod. I haven't had a single chance to do that yet this summer. Canada Day in the evening, I'll be taking the dogs on a drive to escape the sound of fireworks, they make my male GSD so panicked I'm afraid he'll have a heart attack. In the town nearest our farm, they set off the fireworks bordering our land, and the sound waves (shock waves?) bang off our house like we're extras in a second world war movie.

I went to Ottawa several years ago for Canada Day. I really enjoyed the festivities. The only regret I had is not seeing the Mounties perform, I guess I slept in too late lol. Also the skies opened suddenly and poured down rain on us lol. Otherwise a very enjoyable trip.

Those lazy hazy days just seemed to go on and on and on.

Well, the wifey took me out to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville to celebrate the occassion. The food gets a B- but the service gets an AAA. It was very good. We then wandered across the road to the Fallsview casino for the very first time. It's done up really nicely with awesome fountains and a really great lobby. Anyway we went in and the wife put ten dollars in a slot machine, pulled the lever and got $60 back. I liked that, it payed exactly for the dinner and the tip. $50.
We walked down to the falls and yep they looked the same as last week when I was last down there. Always amazing though. We walked back to the car and the gate were you pay to get out of the parking lot was stuck in the up position. Another bonus, life is good. If the rest of my new decade is as good as the first day I'm laughing.
Belated happy birthday Lucknow!!!

Happy birthday, lucknow!

My sister has a birthday on Canada Day - as kids, I was ticked that she got fireworks on her birthday.

I got a laugh out of the card I got for her - on the outside it had a dour looking woman in a black dress and said, "You're at the age when people start thinking about the hereafter."

On the inside it said, "Now what the crap was I here after?"

So I was wondering how the winter wheat crop is doing in your area, stubblejumper. I heard from the Hutterites that they are getting 80-90 bushels an acre in their area. In spite of almost no snow cover this past winter, and almost no rain this spring, it's doing well here. The neighbour says he is getting about 75 bushels an acre. Our oats are looking particularly good.

Quite good. Just starting to come off. Yields out here are generally a little thinner, I'd guess most people are in the 50-60 bu/A, maybe a few above and a few below. We're a little bit dry, though not too bad. I've heard that further east, towards Moose Jaw has had virtually no rain, so things might be a little grim that way.
