A friend of ours is interviewing for a job in Peace River, Alberta, Canada. Other than looking it up on maps and reading a few things about it, we know nothing about the place. Has anyone on this forum been to Peace River or ever lived there? Can you tell us what it's like...what people do there? Any comments appreciated.

Thanks...

Hello, I haven't been there personally, but I *think* its a small town with a lot of Oil & Gas workers coming & going. Perhaps, ask this question in the Edmonton forum.

All the best!

I've been through it a few times, though I haven't really spent much time out and about in the town itself.

The whole of the Peace country is pretty scenic. From what I've seen, I found Peace River to be "nicer" than most northern towns. I got the impression that there was still the violence that seems endemic to northern towns, though the town itself has apparently taken measures to combat it.

I think there were free concerts in the park when I was there last, and it sounds like that sort of thing is fairly commonplace.

5 or 6 NHL players are from there.

That's about all I know.

Thanks for your comments. I looked up some more sites and found pictures and articles about Peace River. Since I prefer smaller towns myself, it actually looks pretty nice to me. Joules21...I actually did post this on the Edmonton forum but it got moved. I guess Peace River is just too far from Edmonton.

Yes it is. It almost 400 km away from Edmonton. (If we were to include that radius one could ask questions about Calgary in the Edmonton forum - it's only 300 km away.)

No problem, that makes sense. I only suggested Edmonton as a lot of people from that area frequently travel to northern BC & AB for work.
