I may take a 2 to 4 day vacation to Canada in late March or early April.
I'd like it to not be very expensive, and as I'd be flying from the southeastern US I'd like to not spend the entire time in an airplane either.

A friend recommended Vancouver, and I have thought about Banff because I like the outdoors. Both seem cool. But hey Canada's a huge country so I figured there's almost certainly a ton of cool stuff I don't know about.

Where should I go? What should I do?

If you're flying from the SE United States, all the way to Vancouver, you'll be on a plane for an entire day, or most of one anyway. And sitting at an airport waiting for a connection along the way.

For a short vacation, I think your best bet would be to try to fly direct to Toronto or Montreal.

Banff is lovely but long flight to Calgary plus a long drive from Calgary to get to Banff. I would go with Montreal or Quebec City - that way you'd really know yer not in Kansas anymore

I vote Montreal and for the period of the year you're suggesting, I'd do some research to find a B&B at the furthest extension (cheaper) of the Metro line and use that method of getting around.

Pop up out of the Metro at any of the major intersections to have a short stroll to anything and everything from dining to shopping to nightclubbing, then stagger back to the metro for a nice cushy rubber-tired ride back to your B&B.

Banff is gorgeous!! But I would stick to going there in the summer, the weather is a little weird, you can experience different seasons in the span of a few hours. I would go to Vancouver, but also take the ferry over to Victoria for a day trip. Victoria is a beautiful city with lots of tourist attractions and interesting people.

Newfoundland and Labrador wouldn't be to long of a flight depending on what souteastern state you live in.

I'll hazard a wild guess and say this person is from Auburn, AL.

Quebec City or Banff would be two places I would want to visit...and I live here.

If it were me I would fly to Quebec city. On a four day vacation I would stay in the old city and just explore the whole area on foot for two days. On the other day I would go out to Mt. Ste Anne and go spring skiing. It's a great hill and the spring skiing is fantastic.

Agree with the others who suggested Quebec City.

Another vote for Montreal or Quebec City at that time of year. And it's a shorter distance for you to fly if you only have 4 days for a holiday. Don't forget to take a warm coat for even in the spring as the climate is not anything like you'd be accustomed to in Alabama.

Vancouver and Banff are beautiful but Banff is maybe best reserved for a visit in the late spring or early summer.
