Canada is scrapping the penny, ending production this year of a coin that weighs down consumers’ pockets while adding little to their purchasing power.

They should phase out the nickel too... Australia and New Zealand did this ages ago and the experience was only positive.

I can confirm that. Lived in Oz for the past 12 years, no pennies, no worries.
Prices are just rounded up or down when paying cash.


Have been in the US for the past 4 months and heading up to Canada next month. Pennies have been an annoyance, nothing more. I see them on the ground here all the time.

Very good news, pennies are useless,lets hope the USA follows suit not only with their pennies but their dollar bills as well as whenever i buy something in the USA i most always get 4 one dollar bills and 4 pennies in change,after a few days there i have bulging pockets with pennies and 1 dollar bills.
