Does anyone know the best way to transfer money from the U.S. to Canada. I was looking at Western Union online and they charged about $50.00. Is there a better way?

My bank lets me setup direct EFT transfers between accounts including international ones. I haven't set one up so not sure on the fee.

There's also a way to email money, though I don't have much information on it.

Wire transfer through your bank.

You will need...

- swift code
- routing number
- the account number
- physical address of the bank

...for the bank where you are making the transfer to.

Keep in mind there will be a fee for the wire transfer and the
exchange rate will apply at the time of the transfer.

Yes but doubt the US banks would be in on that for cross border. I email money from my RBC account to another RBC account holder, TD, Scotiabank, etc.

On TD Canada Trust website:

TD CanadaTrust - Customer Service - Overview (http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/customer-service/overview/index.jsp - broken link)
(click on Receive a wire transfer)

How do I receive a wire transfer to my account?
Receiving a wire transfer to your account

The person sending the wire transfer to your TD Canada Trust account must provide the following information:
Account holder name and full address
Account number
Branch transit number and full address
TD's Institution number 004
Swift Code (international) TDOMCATTTOR

(Please note that "Swift" stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. It is a unique identification code for both financial and non-financial institutions used for International as well as Canadian wire payments.)

If the transfer is in U.S. dollars, you may need to provide the following information from our U.S Correspondent Bank:
Settlement to: Bank of America, New York
SWIFT: BOFAUS3NXXX
Fedwire ABA# 026009593

Information regarding your account can be found on your cheques.

Please note that all incoming wire transfers will be debited $10.00. Other fees may be applied by the issuing financial institution and intermediary banks. (You can also learn about sending a wire transfer from your TD Canada Trust account.)
