Although some Americans crossed the 49th Parallel to avoid being drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, some Canadians went the other direction and enlisted in the American armed forces to fight. How many of you know men who did that? They would be old enough to be grandfathers now.

God bless,

CKB

It's no different than the large numbers of Americans that crossed the borders in the 30's to fight the Nazis long before the US got involved in 1942. Both countries citizens have long histories of fighting for what they believe in, regardless of the stand of the Government at the time.

I knew one guy when I lived in Alberta who had enlisted and went to Vietnam. He wouldn't talk about it. At all.

Ive been told that the number of Canadians who came south exceed the number of Americans who ran away.

Like the nearly 100,000 Irish citizens who served in the British military during World War II, the Canadians who served in the US military in Vietnam have never really been acknowledged by either the US or Canada.

My father crossed the border and served in the U.S. army from '62 to '65. While he was never sent over to Viet Nam, that was his intention when he enlisted.
