Actually Maine and NH have established Canadian communities fromyears back when people from Quebec migrated to work at the mills.
Theres a french american club in Manchester, NH And a friend of mine lives in an area w quite a few french speaking canadian-americans, including her hubby.
Here on the NH seacoast, a sure sign of spring is daily sightings of cars w Que and NB license plates? During summer seems a large percentage of cars at the beach parking lot in Ogunquit, Maine are from Que, its the closest Atlantic ocean beach from Montreal.

Yeah I definitely see the influence as Sunshine mentioned. Lowell, MA has a "Little Canada" section where Canadians settled to work in the Mills as you said. You also see alot of Canadian plates all around Cape Cod in the Summer.
Plus as I mentioned the Medical and Research fields are the recent attraction to the Boston area for Canadians...but that may just be a result of it being a major economic attraction to people from many countries.
I have already deleted a number of threadjacks. Let's keep this thread to a discussion of where in the USA there are large populations of Canadians - it is not a healthcare thread.
True - when I think of large numbers of Canadians in the US I think Arizona and Florida, but there was a HUGE influx of Acadians to Massachusetts in the 60's. I can't think of any Acadians I know that doesn't have family in Mass!
Why'd so many Acadians go to Massachusetts in 60's?
For work - the Maritimes were depressed and there was a lot of work there. I would love to see actual stats on that population.
There was a pretty substantial migration out of Atlantic Canada in the 1960s, mostly to other parts of Canada but also somewhat to the U.S. as well, although moving to the U.S. was not as easy in those days as it was in the late 18th and early 20th century.
Both my parents were part of the migration of young people westward out of Atlantic Canada at that time.
All i found was to 1930 900,000 french canadians moved south, the majority to new england states..
Yes, and since the base population of Acadians is much smaller than the population in Quebec, the relative impacts are not the same. Although the Acadian migration is more apparent in certain areas of New England.
