Since it's right downtown in the heart of a vibrant metropolis where the drinking age is eighteen, it's considered a party school because there's so many fun things to do and so many great scenes that you can get involved in. It's also affordable to party in Montreal, unlike in Vancouver where every single bar seems to be swanky. But that's where it being a party school kind of ends, there's very few fraternities and the academics are rigorous, so you have to put alot of time into studying. That doesn't mean you can't do both, I know many people who managed to have fun and get the good grades while at McGill.
