What do you think of a possible future merger of Kitchener and Waterloo? I mean it may make the most sense considering the two cities touch each other and they are basivally one big area. Do you think it would be a positive move for the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo to amalgamate?

If they did they'd likely throw Cambridge into the mix as well.
It might be good, but I think the metro could get by longterm with perhaps just a regional authority. Most of the other cities in the country have other cities bordering them, although usually with one dominant and the others considered suburbs, as is the situation with Vancouver and the other lower mainland cities, Toronto, Montreal etc.
Are they planning to possibly do this? I don't see why it would be an issue. Is it a bit like Toronto-Mississauga, Vancouver-Surrey-Burnaby, that kinda situation?

I heard it was in discussion but there is no official plan. It's kinda like those situations but unique from it because the two cities are very similar to each other in terms of population and they are both fairly large mid-sized cities. There really isn't any other situation in Canada quite like it. That's why everyone always refers to the area as "Kitchener/Waterloo". I really do hope they join together because it would make a lot of sense for it to be one big area.

Its one of those combined towns that to outsiders you be hard pressed to notice where Kitchener ends and Waterloo begins, i usually use the Railway tracks as the separation point of the two towns but i could be wrong.
I always thought Kitchener was a really stupid name for a city. Sorry for anyone who lives there haha.
It was named for some British guy from way back who was either a military hero or a member of the royal family. Or both.
Originally the city was named Berlin and the local population was predominantly German. But during WWI this displeased some Canadians and the name was changed to the more British Kitchener.

Lord Kitchener right? And yeah, apparently there's a town called Breslau next to it.
