Would you say Parry Sound has more in common with cities such as North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins etc or with cities such as Stratford, St. Catharines and Collingwood?

Don't know about Parry Sound but anything North of Orangeville is "up North" to me and most people that live in Toronto/Hamilton haha.

Geographically Parry Sound is Southern Ontario. Attitude wise, it is south as wise. I used to live in Northern Ontario (head to Thunder Bay and go north), and what you experience south of Sault Ste. Marie is radically different.

Orangeville is not north, but I have heard that frequently. I just roll my eyes.

If you know anything at all about Ontario you know that Perry Sound is, "The near north". It's not southern or northern but has the best of both worlds, so to speak.

It's really more west of Ontario than north. Oddly doesnt it seem like in Ontario, when people say 'north' they actually mean northwest, because of the way the province is shaped?

Any place that is close enough to the major cities of southern Ontario for very large numbers of "southerners" to have vacation or retirement homes will have a more "urban southern Ontarians kicking back" type of feel than a true northern one. I would say Parry Sound fits this description although it is pretty close to the northern limit of the phenomenon.

Interesting. So you'd say it's just barely southern but close to being the true north?

Calling Orangeville northern Ontario is a bit like saying Simi Valley is northern California. It's pretty laughable.

Even Barrie feels as much like North Bay as it does like Toronto.
