I have been checking out the surrounding areas of Vancouver. Surrey seems like such a nice town. I read somewhere that it has several parks. I like to walk on trails quite a bit, and I want to live near where there would be a lot of trails.

Unless you're living in one of the new highrises around Surrey Central, I've heard there is a lot of crime, especially when walking home from SkyTrain.

Surrey is a really vast area that includes a huge swath of Metro Vancouver. It has a bad rep but I'm sure parts of it are nice.

I can walk from Surrey Central (Central City Mall) without fearing for my life. Just as any metropolitan area, you have to keep your wits about you. But you don't have to be paranoid. If you like walking trails. Green Timbers is a great little park with a lake (no, you can't swim in it) but it has wildlife (a lot of friendly mallard ducks).

It's laughable that people form metro Vancouver consider Surrey to be sketchy, in any other metro it would be considered a safe, great little city, because that is what it is. It's just less nice than many of the other metro Vancouver municipalities are, but that doesn't mean it isn't still pretty dang nice.

There are some very nice areas and some very bad areas. I would not recommend moving there without the opinion of a resident on what neighbourhood you pick! Cloverdale in general is a great place to raise a family, I enjoyed it.
