Mouldy with all your interest in Quebec you owe yourself a vacation up to this beautiful part of the world..
When I lived in New Jersey in the early 1990s, one of my favorite vacation destinations was Quebec. In roughly a one day drive I left the suburbs of New York City to a beautiful place that seemed even further away.
Quebec is huge, almost the size of the US east of the Mississippi river. On one trip I drove from Quebec City northeast along the St Lawrence river towards the Saguenay River, Charlevoix is about the half way point on that trip and I stopped near there for lunch. I continued going northeast past the Saguenay River and took a ferry boat across to Trois Pistoles on the Gaspe Peninsula. Beautiful scenery and cool afternoon breezes even in mid or late summer.
Heard that place is stunningly beautiful. When we were staying in Quebec City, I noticed that a lot of dairy products come from Charlevoix - and it's a big producer of artisan cheeses.
In Quebec City, we stayed at the Chateau Frontenac, and I'm not really surprised that the big stuff is happening there - apparantly, the hotel is closed to people who aren't guests, and there's a lot of traffic controls and closed off streets for the G7 summit.
Charlevoix is a lovely area. Even though it is on the St. Lawrence it feels coastal because you can't see the other side of the river in most of it. Beautiful hilly countryside, very pastoral, great area for agri-tourism in general, not just cheese but good food in general.
