Generally we dont care about it and it seldom comes up in conversation but when an American asks us our opinion as in this topic we arent so isolated that we dont have opinions on the issue as the American political Juggernaut is basically in our face every time we try to watch the news.or related talkshows originating from the USA.

We don't much about american politics at all really...In fact We care more about our Local Hockey teams more then we do in our own Federal politics ( Not even a joke we care more about our local NHL hockey teams than we do about our own poltics)
#1 I think we kind of pay Attention to American Politics is because it is talked about on every American owned TV channels we get up here which accounts for 75% of all our TV/News channels.
#2 We are each other largest trading partners so what choices your Govronment makes does have an effect on us and we sometime like to know if it will effect us in a positive way (ie increasing free trade bewteen Canada and the U.S) and in a negative way (Ie huge Tariffs and border fee's on Canadian made goods)

Jambo and GTO were being diplomatic in their responses to your question. I'm not.
Have you ever been hounded by a swarm of gnats or noseeums? They get in your face. Up your nose, in your eyes and ears, in your mouth, down your throat and they make you choke and gag. You're swatting and waving at them to get them out of your face and no amount of effort will disperse them and you can't get away from them and you can't ignore them. Annoying little buggers, they are.
American politics and it's consequent cyberspace armchair politickers and media talking heads are like a swarm of gnats getting in other people's faces. Every. Single. Day. American politics is on the TV and radio stations, it's in movies, in the newspapers and the evening TV news, it's all over cyberspace on forums, on people's blogs, it's everywhere around the world .... not only in Canada. So it's not a matter of Canadians caring about it .... who cares for gnats anyway besides the other gnats? .... it's a matter of not being able to get away from it or totally ignore it because it's being forced upon us like a swarm of gnats getting in our collective face. It's annoying. Being annoyed at something that's swarming people doesn't mean they care about it.

I just notice a lot when I'm online canadians are generally talking about american politics a lot. Wether it be on forums, blogs or youtube. I don't know how much american politics is shown up there. Maybe you guys should try to have like we have down here regarding canadian politics, which is rarely talked about.
But yeah I understand if it's overdone up there on news and everything. I wouldn't want another countries politics shoved down my throat either. Maybe that's something that can be fixed in the future.

If Canadians talk about American politics on forums it is because most on these forums are Americans and American politics is covered on the news here. America is a world power whose decisions affect the lives of everyone else in the world. That is why non-Americans generally are interested in American politics and should be, imo. The future of the world should concern everyone.
Americans don't talk about Canadian politics because they barely know we exist and our internal political decisions don't have the same impact on the world.
Unlike many of the others here, I would say that American politics is discussed, not obsessively, but fairly often among the people I know, depending on what's on the news. The bitterness south of the border is alarming to a lot of people for the reasons I already stated - you are a world power. And we're sitting next to you.
We used to talk about Soviet Union politics just as much before it disintegrated. But we talk about local politics much more than either one of them.

I felt the same when i lived in Ont during the last presidential race. I could not take all the US news coverage.. On the flip side, due to the excessive coverage, the average Canuck probably knows more about US politics than the average Americans kbowledge of Canada and its politics.. I mean look at this thread... Someone asked how canucks felt about capitalism??? its not a peoples republc..

Americans are just much more passionate about their politics and much more loyal to their chosen political party than most Canadians are.
As for Obama, personally I like him and feel that his opposition has prevented him from achieving what could have been some great things for the US.

Its hard to say but i get the sense that most people in Canada like or feel more comfortable with Obama then we did with George Bush.
