This is kind of a weird question, but I moved to Canada from the U.S. last fall, and at your typical U.S. grocery store there's like a wall of Lean Cuisine and Stouffer's frozen dinners.

So far I've only shopped at 'No Frills' and they have maybe 5 different varieties of Lean Cuisine, all with meat or chicken, and I'm a vegetarian, whereas in the U.S. there were maybe 40 varieties.

Can someone tell me where I can buy more Lean Cuisine in Ontario?

Also, there's no Boca vegetarian burgers or Morningstar veggies burgers. There's Yves, but they taste like meat, which I don't like. Where can I get regular veggies burgers that aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg?

Also, Amy's vegetarian foods. Dozens of different choices in the U.S. Here I've found only 2 different choices.

I appreciate any suggestions. I know there's WholeFoods but not where I live, and they're sooo expensive.

A Wallmart superstore is where I would suggest you check out to see what they have in terms of selection.

Regular canadian Walmarts don't really carry groceries. They have a few dry goods and snacks but not much else. Ones that called Superstores are more like the US ones with full grocery stores built in.

One option is you could talk to the manager of your local grocer that only carries the 5 brands and ask them if they could start carrying a veggie brand or two. The manager may be willing to try a case or two and if they sell they may start carrying them permanently.

There are also U.S. Walmart stores that don't have groceries. Not all U.S. Walmarts are Supercenters.

Also, last time I was at Sobeys I saw a wide variety of Lean Cuisines. I didn't count them, but there were definitely more than five. Nofrills is just that - a no frills store with a limited selection.

thanks for your replies everyone. There's a Sobey's where I live, I will have to check that out.

No frills does have low prices on produce and fruit. but yeah, limited selection on other stuff.

That's the point of No fills.

For more selection also try Loblaws, Metro, or even Fortinos and real Canadian superstore.

Honestly, you're not going to get all the selection or brands that you'll get in the US. A suggestion, each supermarket have their own brand, you may want to try them. I personally like President's Choice/Blue Menu from Loblaws and their sister stores (No fills, Fortinos, and real Canadian superstore).

If you are looking for a veggie burger, try Lick's.

Elle before going to a whole lot of searching you might want to check out the lean cuisine website to see if they even sell the vegetarian frozen dinners you are looking for in Canada. If you live close to the border you could always make a run to the USA and pick up a few dozen of your favorites.
As for veggie burgers you could probably make up a whole bunch and freeze em, they'd probably taste better than the ones that come in a box and you'd have the benefit of knowing what ingredients were used....
