I'm indifferent. I guess i'd rather it not happen, since I love Canada, but then again I'm part of a movement that's characterized by some as separatist (The Cascadia movement) so I can't really criticize them that much.

I think Quebec has it great as a part of Canada though. Not only that but I actually think Quebec is the most deeply Canadian part of Canada in many ways.

Have you ever been to Canada? Toronto is nothing like Kansas City.

Very astute observation..
I think the next referendum wont see thousands of Canadians coming to Quebec in a show of support for a Quebec within Canada it will be more of an attitude of, Quebec...Close the door behind you eh!.

And guys i thought we were having fun with this linguistic banter. You have to know where a topic like this is going, if you feel its redundant and been brought up too often then just dont participate rather than taking the op to task for posting a legitimate topic...
And all the related topics end in bad will? really? i never got that impression. i always thought most ended in a we'll agree to disagree type attitude.

What I wonder is what would happen to the Maritimes and Newfoundland? Would it be an Alaska like situation where they'd be physically dis-continguous from Ontario and westward? Maybe they could give the southernmost strip of Quebec to Canada, perhaps admitting it as a part of Ontario or New Brunswick so that the Maritimes wouldn't be totally disconnected, and build a road through it?

I think a positive vote for separation would change very little and would probably be in the courts for decades determining what Quebec is actually entitled to leave with, provisions for right of way access to Eastern Canada via roads/rail and water would have to be negotiated along with hundreds of other legal parameters.I can see the whole separation issue as a total waste of time and money. The way i see it Quebec has it as good as it can possibly be right now and my recommendation to the PQ? be careful what you wish for as you just might get it.

As for the rest of Canada caring whether Quebec stays or goes? You'll notice i'm about the only one on the forum speaking for the Anglo's side of Quebec and its separation objectives...

C'mon, I don't talk about it as often, but you're not the only one.

The big question for this American is: Would maple syrup become even more unaffordable if Quebec were to separate? I saw some (Vermont-made) syrup in a supermarket a couple of days ago and it was over nine dollars for an 8.5 ounce bottle(about 250 ml, I guess)!
