I think the most obvious answer is that unless your producer is a total sociopath, there is no reason to shoot outside in winter.

Unless the weather is a crucial part of the plot which it almost never is, there is absolutely no reason to go outside.

Most filming takes place on sound stages in the first place.

That ignoring the fact watching stuff shot in winter seems totally strange for the other 9 months of the year.

I've certainly seen that girl Sandra from Property Virgins on HGTV walking down a street with a couple in the snow in Toronto.

Where is Quebec's "Hollywood"? Do they call it "Le Bois de Holly"?

Did you know there's a Canadian in Hollywood who has been making big-budget movies for years? Nope, not Jim Carrey, but Jim Cameron. He never became an American citizen. Supposedly he had applied for American citizenship but withdrew his application after George W. Bush won re-election in 2004. What a brave, brave man!

I wonder when some Canadians will come to him and ask what has he done for Canada lately. They should guilt-trip him into making a great Canadian epic.

The problem is, even if he wanted to, none of the big Hollywood studios would provide James Cameron levels of financing for a film with a Canadian theme. Small budget films can work, but James Cameron's whole genre relies on budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars, that's his specialty. If he isn't getting the financing to practice is particular niche art form, I'm sure he'd rather put in more time towards Planetary Resources, which if it is successful could truly alter human destiny in a way that is irrelevant to nationality.

.
To the Quebec entertainment industry, Montreal is NYC and Hollywood all rolled into one.

Regardless of what you want to believe, the fact is that Canada is referred to as Hollywood North. There is no logic in your argument that just because one industry has picked up a nickname that all industries must follow suit.

Have any of you stumbled across a scene being filmed for a TV show or movie, or been cast as an extra?

You can't help but bump into a filming crew in Vancouver. I have friends that work as extras and as prop people. It is not hard to find someone in most people's circle of friends that hasn't had some connection with the business.
