Happy news, for me, as most of you know. I was just reading in the Winnipeg Free Press, an opinion piece that claimed that with years of rumours that Toews was about to resign, that he was spiteful enough to stay just so the press would be wrong. It gave me a laugh.

Vic Toews resigns ahead of cabinet shuffle - Politics - CBC News

Hopefully they don't now make him a senator.

Doesn't make me sad to see him go, either. He was occasionally useful to causes that I care about, but those were far outweighed by some terrible, terrible ideas he headed up.

Wasn't there talk of him going to the Manitoba Court of Appeals last year? If he resigns now, would that still be an option for him? If so, you might not be through with him yet.

Mr Toews is a former law enforcement officer, not a lawyer.

I don't think he would be qualified to sit in a Appeals Court, in any Province.

You sure you're not thinking of someone else?

Prior to politics, Toews was a crown prosecutor. He was also, apparently, legal counsel to the premier of Manitoba during Meech Lake.[University of Winipeg Biography]

There was speculation abot a year ago that he'd leave his MP position for the Manitoba court of appeals.

If Vic had "Toewed" the line in his personal life, this probably wouldn't have happened.

There was talk of Toews being appointed a judge but he has his own conviction regarding some kind of election irregularity that, according to some at the time, made him ineligible to serve as a judge.

I get the joke, but his last name is actually pronounced "Taves"...

I don't think it was his personal life that caused this - I think he made himself so disliked in his public life, that when his personal life gave the opportunity, his colleagues and the media jumped on it.
