People won't watch a "mediocre product". I find many Canadian productions to be really good. I have enjoyed "Arctic air" a lot and it's different than any American show out there.

Ratings numbers suggest that people, by and large, aren't watching.

The only Canadian productions to crack the top 30 most watched shows are hockey and news.[top 30 tv programs]
