If the NHL wanted to relocate a team to Halifax, do you think it could survive? I know that the metropolitan population for Halifax is around 414,000 people but the province as a whole has a population around 922,000.

Do you think an NHL team can be supported by the whole province?

It will never happen but with a leap of faith this would have a good chance of working. Support would come from across Atlantic Canada, not just Nova Scotia.

Halifax couldn't support an AHL let alone an NHL team.

I know that but I was asking if the providence could instead.. Or as poster Acajack mentioned, the whole Atlantic Canada.

I see a NHL team Going Back to Quebec and Ontario before going to Atlantic Canada since money anhas already been put up too bring teams back or start new teams in those areas,

So it would be important to find a investor(s) who wants to build a $300-$400 Million dollar NHL sized Arena in Atlantic Canada that could hose a pro hockey team

Well I doubt many people are going to want to drive 4 hours to get home after a hockey game 10:30 in the night. I can't see many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians flying back and forth for each game.

It would definitely work. There are nowhere near enough Canadian teams in the NHL. They were going to put one in Saskatoon a while back. I would do that, bring back the Nordiques, put a team in Hamilton and put one in Halifax. All these teams would easily be more successful than the southern US teams they keep creating.

Not that many but enough for it to be "gravy'. People all over Canada and even North America book a few trips a year to see their favourite NHL teams. Many people would do this in NS, NB and PEI, and even some from NL would.

Although Halifax's population is smaller than Winnipeg's, Nova Scotia is much smaller and denser than Manitoba, and the total population within an hour or so's drive from each city is probably not that different.

As I said earlier, it will likely never happen as it's too big a leap of faith, but I betcha they could make it work.

Despite hockey being huge in Canada, I don't think an NHL team in Saskatoon would have lasted that long.
