Canada must be similar enough to the United States in movie and television land. All they need to do is put a few American flags on the set and voila! - Toronto is New York or some other "Yankee" city.
Whatever, I thought this was a great list and well needed saying. Obviously they are similar countries, but the similarities are sometimes overstated and it's worth noting the distinctions sometimes.

I sure hope this topic doesn't turn into another one of these god-awful stupid never-ending arguements comparing the differences and similarities between Canada and America.
Why do so many American people want to talk in the Canada forum about America when there are so many other forums devoted to America on CD that they could go to? This is the Canada forum for heavens sake. Please keep America at home where it belongs.
I never see Canadians repeatedly taking Canadian topics into the America forums and trying to shove Canada down American's throats so why do Americans think it's okay to come here to shove America onto Canada?
I'm sick of hearing about it. Are people really that thick and ignorant? There must be hundreds of these topics here already. I'm sick to death and bored stiff with them. Is there a coffin maker in the house? Come take my measurements please.

I was kind of thinking, why didn't the OP post this thread in the American forum? Canadians are already well aware of what makes them different. Americans, not so much.
Belmont, repost this in the General US thread. I guarantee you it will get a whole lot more interesting and you'll probably drive home your points a whole lot more there.

I too have to wonder why this post is here instead of one of the US forums. Obviously there are not many Americans posting here, only the ones that have a direct connection with Canada for some reason.
To me, Canada just seems like America except without all the “stuff”. On a cultural, social, and personal level, the atmosphere can feel very American, because its on the same continent. Go to any social gathering in a major Canadian city and it’ll feel exactly like the U.S. - the only difference is that in the distance the Canadian flag will be waving rather than the American one.
Canada feels like a less “hardcore” version of America, if that makes sense. It’s how you would experience America without actually being in America. This is what makes Canada unique, IMO. With the exception of politics and the government system, the only thing that seperates Canada from America is the very fact that it’s recognized as a different country, nothing else.
