For a good comparison just consider my city of Niagara Falls On. vs. that slum across the river Niagara Falls NY. Crime over there is just terrible with major crimes of every sort occurring daily. The biggest section of their newspaper lists the crimes de jour and it's appalling in the number of them, to say the least. Of course we have crime here, just not very much. I never lock my doors, leave my keys in my vehicle all the time, {I know, BAD HABIT}. I would not be concerned about walking anywhere in the city 24\7 and just generally feel secure.

Well the car was sitting outside in like -10F weather and I like to just like to have her running for a bit so she doesn't freeze to death

there is a statistic on fear of crime. The victim questionnaire asks whether one fears to walk in the dark.

Canada and the US tie for second at 82% don't fear to walk in the dark. Sweden is the only better number.

So it appears the perception of crime is similar in the two countries.

We are part of a bi-country family and don't find any difference between the US and Canada.
