Go back and change that to "breast covering" and see if you still feel the same way about it.

How about a hijab and dark sun glasses? Are you OK with that? Exactly how much face needs to be exposed in order for you to think that a person is not trying to conceal an identity that there is a compelling public interest in exposing? Why do you think you need to see the face of every woman in the supermarket?

The police have the right to ask you to remove your sunglasses, provided they have probable cause to suspect you of connection with a criminal act. The same would apply to a burqa, for which a female police officer could be called in to inspect the suspect's face, and that would not offend or violate the decency of any Muslim woman.

Supposing a suspect in a crime has a certain tattoo as an idenifying mark on her breast. Would what justify the public demand to have the breasts of all women in the supermarket being exposed to public view? So they can call the crimestoppers hotline if they recognize the identifying boob from the salacious Wanted poster?

Only 26% of you are saying no at the moment? I guess I'm used to the USA's guarantee of freedom of expression. Canada gets so many things right that we don't, but this would not be one of them.

Yeah, it's really weird that the poll versus the discussion is so opposite.

You can't pick and choose which body parts are offensive based on your personal beliefs. A lot of people who don't even follow a religion would flip if they saw women going bra-less or man without underwear or whatever. You're basically asserting, JFJ, that your religion has more weight than Muslims and you are right to decide which body parts can and can't be sexualized, which is dumb and selfish.

It doesn't affect you, and you can't prove that these women are being oppressed. They are totally free to not wear these things if they so choose, and there would totally be support for any women facing pressure from family, religion, culture, or whatever.

In Turkey, women can't enter universities in their gear. That's a law. So even in the Islamic world, people are passionate about the patriarchal thing. I really do admire that concern, but it just isn't the right way to address the issue. You make it sound like they are 100% barbarians and you know what's best for them. Don't be like that.

I think it should be left up to the Muslims there to decide.
I don't like govt. telling anyone what to do. That alone doesn't make them who they are or say anything about them. It's not going to change their religion or their beliefs just because it's banned.
It will most likely just **** off the extremists more.

Yes it should be COMPLETELY banned!

You come to our country, you listen to our rules.

Concealing face should NOT be allowed.

What a complete joke!

Just look at the UK, their country is being ruined by these people... protesting and causing all violence. Good job UK, let more in they're good for your country!

While Canada represents freedom, if one comes here and insists on wearing a burqa, out of respect to Canadas freedoms some compromises are expected of the burqa wearer, there will be times when you will be asked to show your face.
Eg; good luck at getting a drivers license or passport with this mug shot. or even getting a job for that matter.

I wouldnt put much into the poll as there are many lurkers on the forum who never participate but do vote on polls, there are also many with multiple user names that can post half a dozen times under different aliases.

If youre going to start endless threads ragging on Mulslims, it would behoove you to learn something about them. The burqa is not a face covering. The face covering, or veil, is called a niqab.

The Horrific Muslim Infiltration Of Britain - Luton 2012 - YouTube
Just watched the video and didnt think the wearing of the clothes was the problem but more the overly aggressive nature of the Muslim inhabitants of the UK, whats their problem?, these people in the video clearly hate their UK home and the British culture that predominates, i'd assume a vast majority of these people have been allowed to emigrate to Britain is this the thanks Britain gets for opening their borders to welcome immigrants?. Jews for Jesus how wide spread is this issue and whats your take on the content of the video.?

Another insightful post from an insightful member. Which is why you won't see the pro-ban crowd responding to it....what will they say? Post some more videos of radical Muslims in other countries; talk about how the niqab is somehow contrary to Canadian values; that it's a symbol of oppression towards women? If the niqab is so dreadful, why do you not hear Canadian Muslim women clamouring for a ban? Oh, I know why. They are too scared of their husbands, brothers and fathers to speak up

Political correctness. Burqa has nothing to do with freedom of religion. Most Americans wants to ban Islamic immigration according to polls.. So what?
