Campbellford is a relatively small town of about 3500 located on the Trent River.
The area relies fairly heavily on tourism, but does have a decent infrastructure including a small hospital, a couple of car dealerships, a couple of decent restaurants, a Timmies, and a chocolate factory.
Campbellford is semi isolated in that it's a good distance from anything else of any size. I notice their DBIA web site claims they're only an hour and a half from Toronto, but that's a little optimistic.
The area around the town tends to be hilly, with a definite agricultural flavour.
Personally, I like the place, but employment should be a concern for anyone considering the area.
Thanks Cornerguy, I'm considering a few different places. I am self employed so employment is not an issue for me, actually it makes sense for me to live where the COL is lower as I make the same money wherever I am.
I do realize it's about 2 hours from TO (where I have a couple of relatives), it's also about 40 min. from a couple of my close friends which is part of the draw. They also have some very reasonably priced century type homes (even on the water in some cases) there.

I think Brockville might work too but it's so far from Toronto, same with Perth (I hear it's beautiful), I love the quaint old places but don't want to be in the middle of nowhere.

There's a world of difference between Brockville and the other 2: Campbellford and Perth combined don't come close to the size of Brockville.
Perth is small, but you can be in Ottawa in an hour.
Brockville is within an easy hour of Kingston.
Of the the 3, Campbellford is what I would consider to be the most isolated -- but not the middle of nowhere.
I guess if it's quaint old places you're after, there are plenty of places to choose from in eastern Ontario.
Maybe a place like Port Hope or Cobourg would be enticing? Both are more proximate to the 401 ( and Toronto), have "quaint" downtown areas, and some reasonable housing available. Cobourg has the advantage of a relatively new hospital and some spectacular Lake Ontario shoreline.

Thanks Cornerguy. If one were living in Brockville what airport would they fly out of? Is there a US one close by? Campbellford is rather far from the airport in TO.
I love Port Hope but won't live there due to the radioactive soil issue; Cobourg might work though but is it pricey? The Niagara Region is very appealing too (and close to the Buffalo Airport) however I don't know anyone there so that part might be hard.

Campbellford to Pearson International is 2 - 2.5 hours.
As far as prices in Cobourg, I guess it depends on what you buy and what market you're accustomed to. People from the Toronto area think eastern Ontario real estate is a bargain while locals bemoan rising prices.
You might also consider the option of buying 3 or 4 miles out of town -- lower prices and less congestion.
