So this is where the experience of someone with a real life view like Magnamoticflux can separate reality from media hype. As for why people move there: the cost of living is half or even lower than SF or Boston let alone Toronto, less snobby/elitist society, and Detroit has a very chic feel that wildly differs from the mainstream white liberal hipster dreams of SF and Boston. If I was offered a good job opportunity I would live there, but my biggest concern would be the weather.
Let's face it though, for someone in Bostonkid's industry (The Asian part is really irrelavent except for the fact that he would have a larger community in Toronto/S.F than Detroit) and the salary he is making, clearly a city like Detroit is not going to have the same pull as other more economical powerful cities in N.A. in the Alpha and Beta + tier of cities. This doesn't mean Detroit isn't for everyone and sure some people can do well there but it isn't exactly a global world class business magnet of a city.

I think it would be a great time to get in on the ground floor of Detroit's re-birth. There are also a LOT of people in the medical field living in Windsor, and working at Detroit's top notch hospitals.
Cool, what are they working on? Apps that calculate your chance of survival for entering any given area in Detroit? There's an app for that right?

No. But I think they're working on one that gets select ignorant Dutch people to keep their mouths shut about things they know nothing about.

There seems to be a demand for it lately.
