Not to mention that Canada (and Quebec should it become independent) have well-functioning and robust democratic system, robust rule of law, along with a relatively strong economy. All those factors already align Canada with the EU criteria for membership, probably more qualified than say Turkey.
Montenegro will probably be next to join EU. They already use the Euro currency. Right next to Croatia as well who is already in the EU. If anything, the eastern European countries are all next up in the EU, not Scandinavia, Switzerland, UK and a country on the other side of the hemisphere...

The EU is on the verge of collapse, not adding new countries.
It's just a reminder that without Quebec Canada will lose 1/4 of it's economy, 1/4 of it's land, 1/4 of it's population, the French language, most things that distinguish it from the US, a land route to the Maritimes, and the province that started it all. Is it worth losing all of that just to prove a point? I think not. Canada would be a hollow shell without Quebec.

I don't know about a hollow shell but it would be greatly diminished.
And it would look very bad internationally. And we all know how keeping up appearances is important.

You seem to forget it would be Quebec and its francophone demographic voting to leave Canada and Not Canada and its Anglophone population voting to leave Quebec,I think it would be Quebec looking bad from the Global communities perspective.
Canada a hollow shell without Quebec? yeah sure,

There would be some obvious economic impact - I think on both sides.. For all intents and purposes the current Canada would have more clout than a more fragmented one internationally in all manner of things from trade to treaties to currency.. I think one of the pro's of a split is in both English Canada and Quebec it would be easier to forge ahead with a more unified purpose.. This is my assumption for the R.O.C though I am not certain for sure. For all the issues that we have in this country, i'm still unsure if splitting up is the best option for either Quebec or the R.O.C.. With that said, if it did happen I don't think it would be a doomsday scenario for either side though a walk in the park not so much.. I think certain realities on both sides would come to realization once that initial high would wear off.

Odd that you would say that Canada would lose 1/4 of its economy when Quebec would lose 3/4 of its own!!??..... Just trying to parallel your logic if that is at all possible.. If this is how you really feel.. well...you underestimate us... A lot of hot air and huffing and puffing your side (you Pbeau not Quebec - you..) but really a case of the pot calling the kettle black with respect to being a hollow shell. It either takes one to know one, or more likely a lot of theatrics going on here for purpose not yet revealed..

Both would initially lose a lot of prestige globally in a kind of ''pox on both your houses'' kind of way.
As in... you guys are rich and peaceful but were too daft to be able to work this out. Really???
