This is primarily an American anglophone forum, and Quebec is a primarily francophone province and as such ranks pretty low on the potential relocation list for Anglo-Canadians, Americans and anyone else whose primary first or second language is English.
So why is there so much chatter about Quebec from you guys? Is the rest of Canada so bland and uninteresting (not saying it is BTW) that all that you wanna talk about is Quebec?
It's as if I went to Canadian discussion forum in French and all the talk was about Alberta and Ontario and not Quebec. It would be weird.
This is primarily a discussion between anglophones (a majority from Anglo-Canada and the States) about Quebec, with occasional interjections from francophones - namely me most of the time. If we look at this forum historically. Other francophones have come and gone.
Quebecers don't debate "the issues" on forums like these in English. They generally debate them on their own forums - in French.
I am simply on here because if I wasn't much of the time there wouldn't be any francophones at all providing views. Which would be a bit weird.
Still, the amount of time people here (and elsewhere too) spend discussing Quebec is a bit unusual.
People get all worked up over the separation issue. I guess everyone either loves or hates Quebec. I don't hate Quebec, I miss the four S's......well at least two of them. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are not quite as exciting to talk about.

My excuse is that I actually live here.
I think I get your point.
And you are right. There is not much else to talk about in the Canada sub-forum. It is either:
(1) Canada vs USA.
(2) Quebec vs Rest of Canada.

So what gives?
I'm pretty sure the majority of those that start threads about Quebec aren't from Canada.. Its a sure way to spin things around.. Look at the rash of U.S/Canada threads as well - sure way to get into 'controversy' and popcorn style entertainment.. Hardly anything to be taken seriously... You get some who are genuinely interested and curious though but only some..

You're largely right about this forum, but everyone from all over still jumps in. It's not as if the threads fall flat and no one comments.
It is also not just here. The comments sections on CBC, the Globe and Mail, Maclean's, National Post are filled with huge threads on stories about Quebec, probably 95% of which or more are not from people who live in Quebec.

Really... hmm not sure I don't really read those often.. Are you speaking about the actual articles being largely Quebec centric or just the articles about Quebec seemingly garnering the most discussion in the comments section?
Why are the majority of active threads on the Canada forum about Quebec?
Because to many Canadians Quebec is the rock in their shoe. It's the part of Canada that hasn't managed to actually become (what they consider to be) Canadian. And they're not sure how to express their conflicting emotions about that reality. So it just goes on and on and on.
Americans don't care as much, it's not their country, but the concept of a long-standing French-speaking population in North America is still interesting to them. It's like the Cajuns; every American has heard of them and they even make reality shows about them hunting alligators or whatever despite the fact that there aren't that many of them today and they're not especially important.

.
I don't know if this is so clear cut as you characterize - I personally don't really relate to this sentiment but at the same time I'm not just dismissing it either.. Regardless, I don't think the concept of being a "Canadian" is so clear cut for many people in the west either in particular. I've read sentiment in here (and of course was already aware and spoken to individuals with it) that those out west would separate from "Ontario" because without QC - the R.O.C would be too heavily populated in one province and there would be an imbalance of power.. There is certainly a minority of individuals with strong regional sentimment all over Canada but I do indeed think they are a minority and for the time being at least - there isn't a lot going on in the separatist camps but yes this could be the calm before the proverbial storm..
